Mission Statement

To provide technical expertise, understanding and support to people and organisations seeking to take advantage of the opportunities offered to Northern Ireland by membership of the European Union (and any similar bodies), in a fair, unbiased and equitable way. This assistance will normally be in the form of technical assistance and advice related to specific programmes.

PROTEUS is one of a number of funding bodies in Northern Ireland responsible for the administration of European Union funding programmes.

In PEACE I, the intention of these programmes was to disseminate funds to voluntary, community and private organisations. The aim was and is to train disadvantaged individuals, excluded from the labour market, to improve their employability, thereby ensuring they secured sustainable jobs. In PEACE I, the Company was responsible for the administration of approximately £24.5 million.

We continue as an Intermediary Funding Body under PEACE II, with responsibility for Measure 1.3 of the PEACE II Extension (New Skills and New Opportunities).

PROTEUS was the National Support Structure, from 1994 to 2001, for the EMPLOYMENT and ADAPT Initiatives and is presently the National Support Structure for the EQUAL Initiative *.
