PEACE I
In December 1995, PROTEUS was appointed by the European Commission and the Training and Employment Agency as an Intermediary Funding Body (IFB) to deliver part of the EU Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the Border Counties of Ireland, 1994-1999.
The aim of the programme was to reinforce progress towards a peaceful and stable society and to promote reconciliation by increasing economic development and employment, promoting urban and rural regeneration, developing cross-border co-operation and extending social inclusion.
PROTEUS was the main IFB for Sub-Programme 1 (Employment), and under PEACE I was responsible for elements of Measure 1 and Measure 2.
Measure 1: Boosting Growth
and Retraining for Peace
Providing skills and qualifications needed to take advantage of the economic
development and employment opportunities provided by Peace.
Addressing specific training and retraining needs arising as a result of the peace process.
Measure 2: Action for
Jobs
To promote peace and reconciliation through initiatives aimed at boosting
action for jobs and combating unemployment, especially amongst disadvantaged
groups.
